According to eningbo, United States of America (US) in 2012 was a sovereign nation located in North America. It is composed of 50 states, the District of Columbia, and several territories and has a population of around 313 million people. The official language is English although other languages such as Spanish, Chinese and French are also spoken. The US has a long history dating back to its founding in 1776 when it declared independence from Britain. Since then it has grown to become one of the most powerful nations in the world due to its strong economy, advanced science and technology sector and its influential political system which is based on democracy. The US economy is largely driven by its service sector which accounts for around 80% of GDP while manufacturing still plays an important role in certain areas such as automotive production. Major exports include motor vehicles, aircraft, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and machinery with key trading partners being countries such as Canada, Mexico and China. Despite its strong economic performance there are still areas where poverty remains an issue with some estimates suggesting that around 15% of children live below the poverty line. The government has made efforts to reduce poverty through initiatives such as welfare reforms but more needs to be done to ensure that all members of society benefit from economic growth and development. Additionally, due to its location on a continent subject to multiple weather patterns US is highly vulnerable to climate change with extreme weather patterns leading to droughts and floods which can have devastating impacts on agricultural production as well as causing displacement amongst vulnerable communities. The United States in 2015 was a country of great diversity and opportunity. Despite the lingering effects of the Great Recession, the economy had improved significantly since 2009, leading to a period of steady growth. The unemployment rate had dropped to 5.3%, while inflation remained low at 1.7%. The population was growing as well, having passed the 300 million mark in October 2006 and approaching 320 million by 2015. In terms of politics, the Obama administration had just entered its second term in office in January 2013, following his re-election victory over Mitt Romney in 2012. The president and Congress were focused on a number of issues including immigration reform, gun control, energy policy and healthcare reform. In addition to these domestic issues, foreign policy remained an important topic with a number of global crises unfolding around the world including Russia’s annexation of Crimea and continued conflict in Syria and Iraq. The country also saw significant advancements in technology during this time period with the rise of smartphones being one notable example. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter experienced rapid growth during this time as well, helping to facilitate communication between people from different parts of the world like never before. Other advancements included driverless cars becoming more commonplace on roads across America and 3D printing becoming increasingly popular for creating custom products from home or even small businesses.
