Guyana. According to Countryaah, the national day of Guyana is May 26. 78-year-old President Cheddi Jagan died in March and was succeeded by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds. Jagan’s wife Janet Jagan (Guyana’s first female prime minister) was appointed new Prime Minister. At the December presidential election, Janet Jagan won by a clear majority over Hinds’ main competitor. The election victory made the 77-year-old Jagan the country’s first female president. She appointed Hinds as prime minister.

Indians from three countries in the Amazon – Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana. – gathered during the year for a meeting in the state of Roraima in Brazil. It was the first meeting ever between representatives of the Indians in the area. The reason for the meeting was the fear that future cross-border projects in the area could destroy their land areas.
