Port of Spain, located on the west coast of the island of Trinidad, is the country’s dominant city and one of the Caribbean’s main port cities with shipyards as well as the food and textile industry. The city is visited by many tourists and is known as the birthplace of calypso and steel band music.

The Port of Spain was founded in the 1560s on the site of a former Indian village. The city became the capital in 1962.
